Newfoundland, nestled into the northeast corner of North America facing the North Atlantic is Newfoundland, is Canada's most easterly province. The province consists of two distinct geographical entities, Newfoundland and Labrador, covering an area as large as 111,390 km2. It is divided into the Western Region, Central Region, Eastern Region and Avalon Region. St. John's in the Avalon region is the capital of Newfoundland and the most easterly city of the whole of Canada. It is Britain's oldest colony, where people have been living since the 1520s, and has since become a booming, lively and fun place with offshore oil spurring economic development. Here you will find a lively bar scene, a wide range of accommodations as well as great restaurants. Downtown near the harbour, walk in the footsteps of history on Water Street, the oldest street in North America.

Outside St. John's, life is a little quieter and you will find pretty fishing villages where the old patterns of life hold sway, breathtaking coastlines, hills, lakes and river valleys with a wide array of outdoor activities and fascinating wildlife.

Newfoundland is a place of rich and diverse culture and heritage. Geographically unique, it extends beyond the rest of the continent to the most easterly point in North America at Cape Spear. Here the Gulf Stream meets the Labrador Current where the abundance of marine life, flora and fauna are a photographer's paradise.

Only about 5 hours flight from London, this is whale-watching territory with a difference! Several thousand 30-tonne Humpbacks and Minke whales swim by here every year and their paths cross those of southbound icebergs coming down from Labrador and even Orcas, Pilot and even Beluga whales have been sighted last year.
