Diving & Snorkelling Some of the best cold-water diving in North America can be found in Conception Bay, a short drive from St. John's. Here you can explore 140 meter World War 2 wrecks, four merchant ships sunk by enemy submarines in the autumn of 1942 to destroy valuable cargoes of iron ore destined for the allies. The remains of these four ore carriers, upright and intact lying in the clear, cold waters of the bay are a magnet for diving enthusiasts. Other Shipwrecks like three 40 meter whalers are the tell tails of our whaling history and the many whales which come yearly to feed on the large schools of fish we call caplain. Abundance of marine life awaits you around the islands reefs, caverns and walls. Something very unique can possibly be arranged for the more adventurous like snorkelling with Humpback whales and diving on walls of Icebergs. |
