 Marine Conservation Ocean Quest and Ocean Net strive to preserve this area so that others may enjoy its many splendours for a long time to come. The area around the Bell Island with its wrecks has been designated as "Ocean Net Marine Park". Although efforts of Ocean Quest and Ocean Net extend far beyond Conception Bay, this is an area of concentration. Dive clubs and conservation organizations are spearheading programs that foster positive attitudinal change towards marine conservation. With more than 360 species of birds in several protected seabird sanctuaries, and a wide variety of other marine wildlife and habitat, conservation activities, including the enforcement of laws banning ship-source pollution, are seen as a critical component of preserving the province's marine heritage. |
