Marine Conservation

Right on the northern tip of the Moalboal peninsula is a marine sanctuary, which was established in 2001. Fishing is not allowed in this area, which has resulted in a huge increase in the population. 2006 has seen the implementation of several more marine sanctuaries in the Moalboal area and divers have to pay a fee to dive inside the sanctuaries. The proceeds will be used to for anchoring buoys and alternative livelyhood programmes for the local fishermen.

The Sanctuary Fee is approximately €8 per diver and must be paid to the dive shop directly upon arrival.
