Diving & Snorkelling Even though the conditions for diving around Nha Trang are pretty much ideal with warm waters all year round, good visibility and very professional dive operations in the area, this country has sadly destroyed some of its underwater resources by over fishing, dynamite and cyanide fishing. As a dive destination it is the perfect location for learn-to-divers as well as for the casual diver who wants to experience Vietnam and do a couple of days diving in a different environment. One of the greatest draws in a destination as new as Vietnam is the unique chance to go out and explore new dive sites, which there are still plenty of but have never been dived before by anyone. Jeremy Stein's Rainbow Divers has led the way in seeking out new dive sites in the area. What you will see are various soft corals, large funnel-shaped sponges and a wide array of hard corals including table corals with diameters up to two meters. The visibility is on average about twenty meters with mild currents and a balmy temperature of 28ºC. In deeper waters the currents often increase and the bottom becomes boulder strewn with plenty of ledges and hiding places for a variety of fish and invertebrates. We encountered several lionfish, colourful nudibranchs, moray eels of every size and shape, stingrays, trumpet fish, scorpion fish, as well as there are rare sightings of giant stingrays and white tip reef sharks. Snorkellers can join one of the dive boats to get to the best spots around the offshore islands. |
