South AfricaEastern Cape

The Pondoland Coast (also called “The Wild Coast”) on the Eastern Cape is one of South Africa’s most fascinating and beautiful regions. It is located halfway between the cities of Durban and East London and the rugged coastline attracts hikers, birdwatchers, surfers and of course scuba divers for the famous SARDINE RUN!

Too remote for modern development, this coast has remained virtually unspoilt and offers stretches of rolling hills, large cascading waterfalls, rocky headlands, lush forests, stunningly beautiful secluded bays and beaches, as well as traditional Xhosa villages where time has stood still.

SEAL Expeditions operate the SARDINE RUN every June/July from the Mbotyi River Lodge just north of Port St. Johns.
