Food & Drink

The restaurant at the Vue Pointe Hotel is lovely spot and serves a variety of international as well as Caribbean cuisine, including weekly lunch and dinner buffets.

If you are staying at the Vue Pointe Hotel and/or diving with Sea Wolf Diving, “Danny’s” is a must for lunch or if you are touring the island you might want to try one of the fresh lobster burgers at “Tina’s” on Main Brades Road.

There are a number of smaller local restaurants that serve hot tasty meals using locally grown produce and herbs – anything from lobster burgers, freshly grilled fish and saltfish (salted cod) with ground provisions, to coconut scallops, pastas and fresh salads.

If you really want to ‘go local’, ask for a sample of ‘Mountain Chicken’ one of Montserrat’s delicacies, better known as Frogs Legs. Word has it that it tastes…. well, like chicken! The less gastronomically adventurous can try `Goat Water` the national dish, which is a thick tasty stew with chunks of goat meat, eaten hot with a crusty bread roll.

Montserrat remains the way the Caribbean used to be, a quiet, gentle place where there’s not a whole lot of nightlife except at special times of year. There’s a host of small roadside bars, better known as “rum shops”, where people gather informally to hang out or “lime”. Among others we tried “Gary Moore’s Wide Awake Bar” in Salem, which seems to be a favourite for locals and visitors alike on a Friday night.
