When to go

Layang Layang has a tropical climate with warm and humid weather all year round. Temperatures range between 24-32C . During 2008 the resort is only open from March till the end of August. Visibility is generally excellent and you can expect it to be anywhere between 30-60 metres. Water temperatures are rather high as well, so that a shorty will suffice most divers.

Getting there

There are daily flights with Malaysian Airlines, Singapore Airlines or Royal Brunei Airways to Tawau via Kuala Lumpur.

One night stopver in Kota Kinabalu is required to catch the early monrning flight to Layang Layang, which is operated by a private airline. The flight takes an hour and you will land only about 1.000 metre from the resort.

Getting around

You will not need any transport on Layang Layang, as the island is small enough to explore on foot.

Entry Requirements

European community nationals only require a valid passport and a return ticket.

Local Airport Tax

Not applicable as usually included in your ticket.

Baggage Allowance

20 kg whereas we can request extra luggage allowance for dive gear with the airlines.

Language

The official language is Bahasa Malaysia, but you will get along quite happily with English throughout Malaysia and in particular on Layang Layang, which is a one resort island.

Money

The local currency is the Malyasian Ringgit (RM). Banks are generally efficient and there are also plenty of moneychangers in the bigger cities. On Layang Layang itself you can pay any additional expenses by Visa or MasterCard or cash in Malaysian Ringgit.

Health

Although the Tourist Office recommends preventative medication for Malaria, incidences of malaria on Layang Layang are basically non existent. In our opinion it is easier to protect yourself from Malaria by wearing long sleeved clothes at sunset, using plenty of insect repellent and maybe sleeping under a mosquito net, than having to deal with the possible side effects of preventative medication. However, inform yourself about the side effects before travelling, talk to a doctor with experience in tropical diseases, and decide for yourself!
