Curaçao is the largest of the ABC islands, lying in the southern Caribbean, just 40 miles off the Venezuelan coast. This island is 38 miles long and 7 miles at its widest. Cactus plants growing up to 8m high and the characteristic wind-distorted Divi-Divi trees dominate the rugged landscape.

Curaçao has some thirty beaches, ranging from intimate rocky coves to long strands bustling with activity. Almost all of the swimming beaches are scattered along the sheltered south-west coast, where the waters are generally calm and crystal clear. The northern coast, with its powerful surf and strong undertow, is not suitable for swimming.

The charming Dutch colonial capital Willemstad with its extensive shopping and entertainment facilities is located in the southern part of the island.
